Heading up the A68 and into Weardale you may see evidence of lead mining. Carry on to Alston, the highest market town in England.
Teesdale cuts its way through the north pennines with some magnificent scenery, reservoirs and the spectacular waterfall at High Force (pictured). Try a bit of local shopping at Barnard Castle where you can also visit the splendid Bowes Museum. The Lake District is surprisingly close. A little over an hour's drive over the A66 finds you beside towering mountains and looking over wide expanses of water. For anyone visiting the north-east of England on holiday, Darlington is centrally located and convenient for the Durham Dales and many other tourist attractions and places of interest nearby. Whether you're visiting the Darlington area for business or pleasure, we look forward to meeting you and hope you enjoy your stay at Balmoral Guest House. |
