Northumbria and the Northumberland coast has magnificent scenery, excellent beaches and many places of historical interest.
Just 20 miles north of Darlington is Durham with its famous cathedral and castle opposite. Take a trip to a family seaside resort such as Whitley Bay or explore the broad expanses of sandy beach further north towards the border. Steep yourself in history by visiting the castles at Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and inland at Alnwick. Or tread in the footsteps of the Romans at Hadrians Wall to the west of Newcastle. On Holy Island is the castle (pictured) and Lindisfarne Priory, visited centuries ago by St Cuthbert. A little further north is the Scottish Border about 90 minutes drive by car or by train to Berwick. For anyone visiting the north-east of England on holiday, Darlington is centrally located and convenient for Northumbria and many other tourist attractions and places of interest nearby. Whether you're visiting the Darlington area for business or pleasure, we look forward to meeting you and hope you enjoy your stay at Balmoral Guest House. |
