The A1(M) motorway

The A1(M) motorway runs down the west side of the town. To the north it leads to Durham and Tyneside. Heading south it loses motorway status, becoming the A1 just south of the village of Barton.

There are two junctions for Darlington. The northern one is on the A68, the southern one is with the A66(M) and is restricted to traffic heading south from Darlington on to the A1(M) or heading north to Darlington from the A1(M).
