Crombies to look after homeless ghost
Customers and staff at Crombies restaurant will be keeping an eye out for Hamlet,
a ghost who has lost his home. He originally lived in the Pied Piper pub, opposite Crombies
in Tubwell Row. But following the demolition of the pub to make way for the Cornmill Shopping
Centre, Fredrick Stehr, owner of Crombies has been asked to protect the spirit.
Mr. Stehr said,
"The staff and previous landlords of the Pied Piper often talked about Hamlet.
He was quite a friendly ghost but made quite a lot of noise and liked to keep the pub doors open."
Offers of help have also come from C & A whose shop will occupy the space where Hamlet
resided, and the Council's Housing Department which has a duty to re-house the homeless.
Mr. Stehr added,
"I am very grateful to C & A and the council. I can now tell my customers
not to worry as Hamlet will be well looked after."
